Reverie
Announcing the launch of my new journal app
Reverie is the journal that plays your writing back to you.
Reverie is the first commercial software I've shipped in 44 years of programming that isn't a game.
I used AI to build it, but it features no AI within the code itself. Like me, an enigmatic paradox. It's intensely personal and private, but doesn't shun the modern world, it just sets some boundaries for your personal space.
I hope you get out of it what I do, because Reverie is now where I do most of my own writing, and where I go not just to reflect on my writing, but to watch how it took shape. I don't think there's anything like it, which is why I built it.
I’ve made the decision to make Reverie free to download and play with for as long as you like, on Mac and Windows, Linux when it ships.
Pay me only if you think it’s earned its place in your life, or as a show of support. I couldn’t afford Sublime Text when I first started using it, but as soon as I could, I bought it, and I never forgot that lesson.
If you do buy during early access, £29 makes every future version yours, free, forever — the price rises at launch proper and later buyers pay fairly for major updates. I’ll never charge for minor updates or bug fixes. (Remember that annual subscribers to this newsletter get anything I make for free, and before it goes on general release.)
Please send any feedback to support@freeholder.dev. I manage that mailbox, so I'll take every bit of feedback seriously. That doesn't mean I'll make drastic changes to Reverie, but I will endeavour to fix any bugs or niggles as quickly as I can. Most of all, I'd love to know how you're using Reverie and what you like about it most.
That said, I want to leave you with a message I used to look at in my local barber's shop back in 1970s London.
"If you like your haircut, tell your friends.
If you don't, tell us"
And yes, that means you should feel free to talk about it widely if you like it, but don't feel obliged. If you’re happy to share, please use this link.
